Most of tourists going to Slovakia mostly visit its central and Eastern part (in my opinion) but the West has also something to expose. Maybe you will find inspiration for short stay (longer weekend) in Western Slovakia on the following lines. Assume that your trip starts from Brno on D2 highway and you would like to visit Bratislava, the capital city.
First day, stand No.1: Lozorno How else you can start your golf trip than with golf? As a warming–up I chose for you short (and less-kept) but cheap and public course. It disposes of five holes with total length c. 120-240m with par 3 and 4. For one play you will pay just 100 Sk. And that is a good deal.
To play a field par can be a good challenge for players with high HCP. If your HPC is c. 36, you have a chance to play birdie on each hole – or you can just try it....Then let us know, how your play was.
And how can you get there? Approximately 17 km to Bratislava (from Brno) you will see exit to Lozorno, turn there. On the next crossroad you will not turn left to Lozorno, but you still keep the main road in the direction of Stupava. After few meters turn left to the rural road. For illustration I enclose a small map - maybe it helps.
The first day, stand No. 2: Bratislava If I should show you Bratislava in one day, I would certainly take you to trip on the boat on Dunaj to Devín, where Morava pour oneself into Dunaj and from here you can see as far up as Austria. Then we would take a one hour walk through the city center (we don´t need more time to visit historical monuments), we would “climb up” to the castle and finally to view point called UFO (restaurant on the top of SNP bridge). That was a last part of our today´s trip (just in case you won´t “smell” the night life).
The second day, stand No. 3: Piešťany 88 km far from Bratislava, straight on D1 highway you will come to Piešťany. This picturesque spa town is oriented on treatment of locomotive organs and nerves. There are also lakes where you can refresh yourself. Walk through the bath area you can make pleasant with massage, eventually with some curative or relaxation procedure. Well and you can play golf of course.
The second day, stand No. 4: Spagolf Vrbinky Course Vrbinky is situated just at the end of Spa Island. After first nine holes is a good time for lunch – and local restaurant will not disappoint you (I hope – I was very satisfied). This course surprised me at its history goes down to 1913.
The third day, stand No.5: Water dam Gabčíkovo This technological miracle is situated 101 km far from Piešany on the South. It is not just great view for men, you really should see it..
The third day, stand No. 6: Welten golf During looking for other golf courses around Gabčíkov I found one, that I don´t know at all. Web sides looked good, they are just writing about finishing of a building. I have got a feeling that first nine holes are functional and the second nine holes “are on the way”. I will try to go there and get some information for you in short time.
The fourth day, stand No. 7: Black river Bernolákovo On this course I also haven´t played yet, but I visited this place. Course has two parts. First six holes is called Park and the last twelve is called Black river. As I heard from my colleagues from golfczech.cz, in this part they should put the ropes up to the trees next to fairway, because this course is so difficult that after each stroke everybody wants to hang o. s. This course is ranked among extremely expensive courses. I will tell you a secret – on Tuesday you can play just for 700 Sk (information from June 2008). As soon as I will be in Slovakia on Tuesday I will go test these “ropes”.
The fourth day, stand No. 8: Kamila Before the way home I choose one more stand for you. Originally it was just hotel now there are also horses and golf. For 300 Sk you can play six chip and put holes (triple par) – and even twice. You can´t expect miracles, this nice course manage to check up the quality of your short play. One more information at the end – the owner of this course is nobody else than (famous – rem. Of Golfczech.cz) Slovak actress Kamila Magálová.
After four great days (I hope) spent with golf I would like to wish you a safe homecoming.
